A Heart’s Desire Wish and 100th Birthday Celebration
At Arden Courts, we believe each life is a unique tapestry. A distinct combination of moments, memories and ambitions. And each person’s dreams, whether already fulfilled or still aspired to, are entwined adding to life’s richness.
The Heart’s Desire program at Arden Courts offers a chance for residents to relive a favorite memory. For others, this program gives an opportunity to remember a cherished time in our resident’s lifetime or make a lasting memory with a simple pleasure.
For Arden Courts resident Nance G., her “Heart’s Desire” included all three of these experiences. Nancy was born in Rhode Island and was one of two children. During her lifetime, she married, traveled and enjoyed the company of family and friends.
Nance now lives at Arden Courts ProMedica Memory Care community located in Palm Harbor, Florida. Nance is happy to be in Florida where she retired with her husband John who she was married to for many years. She shares fond memories of traveling to Italy and enjoys good Italian food.
While spending time with Nance, Memory Care Advisor Maryanne Fisher always enjoys hearing Nance reminisce about her time working at The Miriam Hospital of Providence, Rhode Island. “When Nance talks about her job at the hospital, she truly glows.” said Maryanne. Nance shows much pride when she speaks about her job at the hospital in addition to remembering the good times with the team.
In the winter when making one of Nance’s weekly FaceTime video conferencing calls to her niece, Joanne, the two ladies spoke about how to celebrate Nance’s 100th birthday in the spring. It did not take long for them to decide that Nance’s career was one of the fondest memories she still has of her lifetime which is really no surprise considering Nance worked for the hospital for over 40 years until her retirement at the age of 65.
The two ladies thought it would be nice if Nance received an award from the hospital for her years of service. Joanne reached out to Jeni Mowry, Manager of Volunteer & Customer Service at Miriam Hospital.
What happened next was more than either Nance or her niece, Joanne, expected. Jeni inquired with the Lab Department at the hospital, wondering if anyone would remember Nance. Past co-workers Diane Lee and Kathleen Peters along with many other team members said they did not just “remember” Nance but they kind of grew up with Nance and considered her both a mentor and friend.
The team members did so much more than Joanne ever imagined. They assembled a photo album for Nance which depicted the history and good times of the Lab Department where Nance once worked. Nance will be presented with the album along with the opportunity to speak to some of the “girls from the hospital” as part of her Heart’s Desire and 100th Birthday Celebration.
